Overview

Appointless turns a service professional's offerings into online bookings. Each professional gets a branded booking website on a subdomain or custom domain, where clients can book appointments, pay, and buy products. Behind it, professionals manage services, availability, bookings, customers and payments from one dashboard. I designed and built the entire platform: the customer-facing frontend, the API and background workers, and the internal staff admin console.

Key contributions

  • Multi-tenant architecture: Built tenant routing so every professional's site works at /book/slug, on its own subdomain, or on a verified custom domain.
  • Booking engine: Built timezone-aware availability, so slots come from each professional's weekly schedule and blocked dates. The server rechecks availability and sets appointment end times itself, which prevents double bookings and tampered requests.
  • Payments: Integrated marketplace checkout with signed webhooks, retry handling, processing fees, commissions and a payment ledger. This is kept separate from professionals' own subscription billing.
  • Website builder: Built themed public templates (Classic, Modern and Elegant) with colors and content set by each professional, plus dynamic Open Graph images for sharing.
  • Online shop: Added product listings and order management so professionals can sell alongside bookings.
  • Provider dashboard: Built the dashboard for managing bookings, customers, services, schedules, products, payments, notifications and website settings.
  • Backend for frontend: Built a secure same-origin API proxy in Next.js with route allowlisting, origin checks and session cookie refresh.
  • Notifications and background jobs: Set up Redis-backed queues and a worker process for email and in-app notifications.
  • Staff admin console: Built a separate console for user onboarding, website moderation, analytics, settlements, content publishing, team access and audit logs. Role-based access is enforced on the server.
  • Testing and deployment: Wrote unit and end-to-end tests (Vitest, Jest, Playwright), containerized local development with Docker, and deployed the frontend on Cloudflare via OpenNext.
